Charting the true story of a pioneering female swimmer who sets out to conquer the English Channel, a feat dominated by men in the early 20th century. Her grueling preparation and the swim itself test her physical and emotional limits, challenging societal expectations and changing perceptions of women in sports.

As a result, Ridley spends a lot of the movie alone.

Even in scenes where Trudy is around her family or friends, she comes across as serious and reserved.

Beyond the emotional is the sheer physical nature of the role.

Ridley makes a meal of this dark madcap of a movie that all rides on her shoulders.

It’s hard to imagineYoung Woman and the Seanot having a similar impact.
