If I had to sum up the97th Academy Awardsin one word it would be: “surprising.”
One of the biggest surprises to me was thatWickednabbed the Oscar for Best Production Design.
To create the rows of flowers that fill Munchkinland, Crowley had someone plant 9 million tulip buds.

And the moving head that the Wizard utilizes was an actual moving set!
What makes this even more impressive is that Crowley and his team only had five months to build theWickedsets.

WouldWickedhave resonated as much if it didn’t have those wonderful sets?
I doubt it, as part of what makes it a film worth watching is its visual identity.
Nathan Crowley and his team are to thank for that, and his win is a pleasant surprise.
