Amrita patiently chips away at Rick’s apathetic exterior toreveal a lie he is telling himself.
As such, his drug-induced (but still grief-addled) reaction to the caged snakes makes perfect sense.
Pairing Rick’s selfishness with Chelsea’s selflessness ultimately causes this one-sided tug-of-war.

It is especially damning when you consider thatRick’s snake-like qualities are slowly poisoning Chelsea.
This is escalated to being physically injured after Rick’s self-deception is manifested into erratic actions.
We are both horrified and intrigued.
