Final Girls Are the Biggest Tropes in Slasher Films

Slashers are filled with tropes.

We’re going to get a killer who was probably bullied in some form and is seeking revenge.

You have the jock, the nerd, the sexually active woman who gets the gnarliest death, etc.

They’re usually thinly written and there to die until we get to the final girl.

The final girl might be the biggest trope of all.

On top of that, she’s pregnant and wants an abortion.

There is nothing wrong with writing a character in this way.

She’s not your average screaming teenager.

The more we get to know Nancy, the more we see why she behaves the way she does.

It’s not a job she wants, but it’s one she takes seriously.

She won’t take disrespect or laziness from anyone.

Nancy isn’t your quiet final girl.

Rather than cower, Nancy sets her jaw and tells them to leave.

The masked men leave before the cops come, but they promise to come back.

Later in the night, the masked men return to the diner when Nancy is all alone.
