In fact,Cameron’s film was beaten by a year by a CBS miniseries also calledTitanic.
Divided into two parts, much like the Titanic itself, the series aired in November 1996.
Cameron’sTitanic, in turn, would only come out in December 1997.

AndTitanic1996 sure delivers with not just one, but two romances doomed by icy waters.
Therefore, the romances aren’t exactly interesting.
They didn’t come to Casablanca for the waters…
ButTitanicdoesn’t rely solely on romance.

Unfortunately, though, the other story it has to tell is equally uninteresting.
Alice is just constantly paranoid about being recognized and keeps having dreams about babies drowning in the ocean.
That might sound obvious nowadays, but it was far from being a given in Titanic-inspired productions pre-1996.
Their testimonies, however, were not believed.
Now, is the scene in which the ship breaks particularly enthralling?
The result is a little underwhelming.
