After playing Tony Soprano’s mentor and father figure on HBO’s hit crime seriesThe Sopranos, actor Dominic Chianese is going back in time and back to HBO for his next gig in underground crime.TV Guidereports the actor will have a six episode character arc out of the 12-episode second season ofBoardwalk Empirewhere he’ll play Leander Whitlock, a character described as a contemporary of Commodore Louis Kaestner (Dabney Coleman) the man who mentors Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) in the first season.

Chianese’s work goes back to films likeThe Godfather: Part IIand comes up as recently as a character arc onDamages.

His presence onBoardwalk Empirewill certainly be welcome, but apparently he’ll almost be unrecognizable in the role according to series creator Terrence Winter, so I can’t wait to see what his character brings to the series.
