Its like, ‘f, he loves her.’

You look at the poster, you talk aboutThe Terminator, thats not what anyones thinking.

What does it all mean? Those palpable heartbeats are the magic sauce.

I could go down James Camerons whole resume: thats the reason his movies make a billion dollars.

Thats why hes a genius.

Judgment Day is coming.

And then in the second movie, hes someone who protects John Connor.

The transition from one to two was a great narrative storyline.

That really captured the hearts of people.

Ive been a big fan of the movies since the original.

Ive watched them all, but especially the first two.

I watched it when they came out; Im from that generation.

Im a huge fan of the series, particularly the first two movies.

I know theres a preference for the second one generally, but I especially love the original.

TOMLIN: Im with you.

For me, its the first one.

I thought ‘Thats Mr. Thats who that is for me as a 7-year-old.

Terminator Zero

In the first Terminator, Schwarzeneggers entire face is blown off.

Its like ‘Oh, youre not a movie star yet.’

In the second movie, hes got some cool makeup, but its still Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Thats the difference of star power.

Then you cast Schwarzenegger, and hesthis! That guys not sneaking around anywhere.

That original conception was never able to be followed through because it was Arnold Schwarzenegger.

And as great as that was, this was an opportunity to go the other way.

Did you feel pressure to live up to theTerminatorlegacy?

TOMLIN: Yeah… the pressure comes from the fact that its a franchise thats 40 years old.

People care about it.

Nobody knows that Im working on it, nobody knows what it is.

Nobody gives a flying f about it.

If youre working on something likeTerminator, people care.

People have primal connections to the characters and the story.

I wanna do a good job for me; I wanna do a good job for them.

Animation Brings a New Dimension of Imagination to The Terminator Franchise

What does animation bring toTerminator?

What were the most exciting innovations of the series in relation to what had come before?

Hes different from the old Terminator.

Hes not this monstrous, intimidating Terminator; hes more creepy, very unsettling.

I think thats the big difference.

We had to create these fight scenes creatively.

The anime genre is about to be terminated.

Its a new, fresh idea, but it blends in with the established lore oddly well.

What can you tell us about the creation of this character?

KUDO: So, for Kokoro, the character Malcolm created this AI.

We wanted a character like an AI, but a hologram; its not physically there.

So we have that blur effect on her to make her look divine, godlike.

That word genius really does apply to Cameron.

He sinks his claws into the most fundamental feelings and emotions.

This series honors the emotional hook that made this whole enterprise work so well 40 years ago.

Has Cameron voiced an opinion onTerminator Zero?

TOMLIN: He wasnt involved at all, but the other day inThe Hollywood Reporterhe was asked about it.

He was very gracious.

I hope he likes it; I hope he doesnt hate it.

Will we potentially be seeing moreTerminatoranimation in the future?

KUDO: If this story is a success, I would hope to continue, yes.

Terminator Zerois now streaming on Netflix.
