I had doubts about howOuter Bankswould kick off Season 4.
The artifact in question is an amulet that belonged to Blackbeard’s wife, Elizabeth.
And so the gang is off again on another adventure.

However, for much of Season 4 Part 1,the treasure-huntingfeels detached from the Pogues.
It wasn’t ever about the money for him.
All ofit was a connection to his father; greed had nothing to do with it.
But,this new arc does pose the possibility of more treasure huntsafter this one is solved.

Season 4 is a return to that form.
It also offers a different side to the characters.
Without the do-or-die situations,we can see the characters' strengths and weaknesses on full display.

At his side is Sofia (Fiona Palomo), an erstwhile companion turned fully-fledged girlfriend.
It’sa nice change of pacefor someone you might have calledthe most unlikeable character on the show.
It’s interesting to seeRafe finding some kind of weird middle groundbetween being a Kook and a Pogue.
Just as it feels like it’s taking off, Part 1 is over.
Now let’s see if it stays that way.
