The year 2024 was unpredictable for the horror genre, with several high-profile films under-performing both critically and commercially.
But if there was one scary movie that succeeded on both counts, it was directorOsgood Perkins’Longlegs.
It emerged as the highest-grossing hit in Neon’s history, grossing around $75 million domestically.

However,The Monkeyfalls short ofCompanion, which recently debuted with a B+ grade.
The worst-rated horror movie of the post-pandemic era isThe Exorcism, which earned a D grade.
The Monkey is based on Stephen King’s 1980 short story of the same name. The plot follows twin brothers Hal and Bill, played by Theo James and Christian Convery, who discover a cursed monkey toy in their father’s attic. The toy is linked to a series of gruesome deaths, forcing the brothers to confront its dark power years later.
The movie also featuresTatiana Maslany,Christian Convery,Adam Scott, andElijah Wood.
Perkins already has another film lined up for release later this year.
Also starring Maslany, the project is titledKeeper, and will be released, likeLonglegsandThe Monkey, by Neon.
