However, the film was criticized by many for its pacing and sheer display of violence.
Yet, author David Morrell was incredibly pleased.

“This is the first time thatthe tone of my novelFirst Bloodhas been used in any of the movies.
It’s almost hard to believe.
“The most telling line of dialogue is, ‘I didnt kill for my country.

I killed for myself.
And for that, I dont believe God can forgive me,'” Morrell notes.
“But no one knows about it.
It’s exotic and it’s near Vietnam.
“That, to me, is one of the proudest moments I’ve ever had in film.”
