The series starredJack Dylan Grazer(Shazam!
), who gives a stunning performance as Fraser Wilson.
Guadagnino specializes in compelling, messy relationships and Fraser and Caitlin are one of his best.

One of the most notable examples of this is Harper’s gender identity.
But,We Are Who We Areis significantly less explicit thanshows likeHeartstopperin which characters very clearly self-identify.
When Harper is asked probing questions, he often freezes up or answers ambiguously.
It can be a time when expressing yourself is difficult and labels feel insufficient or suffocating.
I’ll still be shaking my ass to it!
‘We Are Who Are’ Lets Feelings Be Unspoken
The visuals inWe Are Who We Areare stunning.
LikeCall Me by Your Name, it makes great use of the naturally beautiful Italian setting.
In fact,We Are Who We Areis extremely sparing with dialogue.
Several key scenes use as little dialogue as possible.
Harper in particular often responds with silence when asked important questions about his feelings.
In one scene, Britt (Francesca Scorsese) kisses Harper.
When she asks if he likes it, Harper responds simply, “I don’t know.”
Then, when Britt tells Harper she loves him, his response is a long silence.
Later, Harper asks Fraser if he still likes him in guy mode.
Fraser asks, “I mean, I don’t know… Are you still you?”
Harper is struck silent by that question.
In most shows, these would be key scenes to let you know exactly how the characters feel.
It has the beautiful directorial style audiences expect from Luca Guadagnino.
We Are Who We Areis available to stream on MAX in the U.S.
