However, as one might expect, Best Picture recipients aren’t always extraordinary.
So far in history, there have been remarkably few winners that one might reasonably call bad or mediocre.
These not-great Best Picture winners are ranked by how close they come to greatness.

It’spretty middle-of-the-roadas far as Best Picture winners are concerned, so definitely not a bad film in any way.
In retrospect, this has made the original look even better.
The film’s political critique is sharp and its messages, depressingly relevant today, are timeless.

All things considered,CODAis a phenomenal film that’s entirely impossible to dislike.
Even still, the film has way too many strengths to call it anything less than fantastic.
So, what’s the issue?

Furthermore, the saccharine tone doesn’t really blend well with these poorly structure sociopolitical critiques.
It may not be a great film, but it comes admirably close.
