SOMETHING WILD Criterion Blu-ray Review

Jonathan Demme was one of the brightest spots of filmmaking in the 1980s. Like early Spielberg, his sensibilities for Americana were funky but authentic. He liked weird people, but not in an ironic or grotesque way. He loves people, and it shows in every bit of his casting. It stars Jeff Daniels and Melanie Griffith, and introduced the world to Ray Liotta. Check out our review of the film on Blu-ray after the jump....

First Look at THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN'S The Lizard! (Sort of!)

One of the challenges facing Marc Webb’sThe Amazing Spider-Manis how to bring the film’s villain, The Lizard (played by Rhys Ifans), to life.A On the page, you’re able to just see “Oh.A He’s like a tiny dinosaur wearing a lab coat.A How about that. “A On screen, however, that may look a little silly and I’m sure there have been plenty of make-up tests and various designs to find a convincing look that not only is scary and effective, but also allows for Ifans to emote....

LE CERCLE ROUGE Criterion Blu-ray Review

Jean-Pierre Melville is a director that has probably been loved more by directors and filmmakers than general audiences. John Woo swears by him. Quentin Tarantino adores him. But thank god Criterion put out the original on Blu-ray. Check out our review after the jump....

Sony has announced that Marc Webb’sSpider-Manreboot will be officially titledThe Amazing Spider-Man. That’s not too much of a surprise. At least we can now stop referring to it as “Marc Webb’sSpider-Manreboot.” Sony has also released a new image of Spidey, this time with the mask on. I have to say that I’m not crazy about it. ThemoreIseeof the newSpider-Mancostume, the less I like it.A Granted, I need to see how it performs in action, but these new set photos don’t bode well for the final picture.A The costume makes Spidey look like a cross between an extra-terrestrial and venetian blinds.A Of course it’s likely that some CG work will be done on it between now and release so I don’t want to be too harsh on the design....
